Could this be bed bugs?
Most people do not start by asking which treatment to buy. They start by asking what they have actually found. Work through what you have seen and we will explain, in plain English, what it does and does not indicate.
What have you found or noticed?
Choose whichever is closest. You can change it at any point, and nothing you enter here is sent to us unless you choose to ask for a review.
What this is, and is not
An educational reading of your evidence
This tool helps you understand the significance of what you have observed. It is not a diagnosis, and it never claims certainty.
It will
- Explain what your observations are, and are not, consistent with.
- Show its reasoning so you can judge it for yourself.
- Tell you what further evidence would make the picture clearer.
- Point you at the right BHE material for what you described.
It will not
- Confirm or rule out bed bugs from a questionnaire.
- Diagnose a skin reaction — that is a medical matter.
- Name another insect species as a confirmed identification.
- Give you a percentage score or push treatment on weak evidence.
Bites alone are not reliable confirmation of bed bugs. People react to bites very differently, some people do not react at all, and several unrelated causes produce similar marks. We will not tell you that you have bed bugs on the basis of a bite pattern, a description or a low-quality photograph.
Reading about the signs first? Bed Bug Identification and Signs Of Bed Bugs cover what to look for and where. The What We Know sets out how we read a property.
